Triple Drop Rapid (Class III) - Royal Gorge

Triple Drop is lively class III rapid located just downstream of Boat Eater Rapid. Still in the confines of the Royal Gorge, Triple Drop is a longer than average rapid with (you guessed it) about three defined sections of river where most of the gradient occurs. 

Stick to the left side of the rapid for the most exciting waves and the fastest route. Towards the lower portion of the rapid when the river bends a bit to the right, be sure you’re lined up to run left of center. There’s a nasty pour-over rock on the left, and it’s too rocky on the right. Once you reach the bottom of Triple Drop be sure to take a look back upstream – this will be your last view of the Royal Gorge Bridge before the river takes a bend as we begin our egress from the gorge.
