sharks tooth Rapid (Class III) - Bighorn sheep canyon
While there’s nearly always a boulder, hydraulic, or other river feature to contend with in Sharks Tooth Rapid, it’s also a rapid that nearly all guides and guests enjoy completely since there are a lot more splashy hits than stressful must-make maneuvers! Sharks Tooth is a class III rapid with a number of waves stacked one after another at higher flows, and a few tight turns and moves needed at medium and lower flows.
The river tends to push rafts towards the right bank since the river takes a gentle left turn all through the rapid. This always poses a bit of a challenge, but also a thrill as crews work with their guide to fight the pull of the river while searching out the biggest waves to paddle through and over. There a few pull-outs on the highway next to this rapid, so paddle crews are often cheered on as they navigate the rapid with their guide – everyone loves an audience!
