Bighorn Sheep Canyon Rapids
The Arkansas River runs through the Bighorn Sheep Canyon in Colorado. At its most tame, the canyon provides class II-III whitewater rafting that is perfect for beginners and family trips. Calm, peaceful stretches of the river are broken up by rapids like Wake Up, Three Rocks, Spikebuck, and Sharks Tooth. When the river is running higher and faster, most rafting trips are moved further up river as many of these rapids, Three Rocks in particular, become more challenging class IV-V rapids. Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep and other local wildlife as you cruise down this scenic river with towering canyon walls and the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in the background.

What is Rafting Bighorn Sheep Canyon Like?
This rafting trip is the most popular choice for beginner and intermediate rafters. Here you’ll find a number of class III rapids – a class of rapids best described as family-friendly. At high water flows you’ll sometimes experience class IV rapids. You’ll find yourself splashing and laughing as you bounce from one rapid to the next, enjoying many peaceful stretches where you can take in the majesty of the river canyon.
When rafting Bighorn Sheep Canyon, you’re likely to spot a variety of wildlife along this trip as you float past crowds of Willows and Cottonwood trees. You might catch birds like Golden Eagles and Peregrine Falcons flying above, while a variety of trout swim below.
