Average Joe and Jane Guide School Multi-Day

Step into the sandals of the life of raft guide! Join Echo Canyon River Expeditions for our 2 or 3 Day Average Joe & Jane Guide School and learn first hand what it takes to be a raft guide on the Arkansas River. With our highly trained and patient Senior Guide Instructors, we'll teach you the basics of reading river currents, paddle boat guiding, and rescue skills. In controlled training scenarios we'll practice swift water crossings, teach you how to swim in whitewater and rescue your fellow crew members.

To maximize your guiding time we’ll paddle class II and III whitewater for the majority of river miles we cover. But don’t worry; we’ll finish off the trip with a bang as your Guide Instructor takes the helm to show you how to guide the big class IV rapids in the famous Royal Gorge.

Enjoy beautiful river side camps and hearty meals freshly prepared by your Guide Instructors. Feel free to pitch in and help with dinner, or warm your feet by the fire if you prefer. All wetsuit gear, tents and sleeping bags are included in our Average Joe & Jane Guide School. Swimming ability and a sense of adventure is a must for this trip! Minimum age depends on water levels; no children please. This is NOT a commercial guide training program; rather, it is a fun few days which includes the fun exciting aspects of a guide’s daily job.
